This homemade steak seasoning is quick to make and has a long shelf life. The combination of coriander, dill, onion powder, garlic powder, and salt brings out the steak’s natural flavors.
1 ½ tablespoons whole black peppercorns
1 ½ tablespoons whole coriander seeds
1 tablespoon dried dill
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 tablespoon garlic powder
2 teaspoons Italian herb blend or Italian seasoning, like McCormick
1 tablespoon + 1/2 teaspoon flaky sea salt, like Maldon
1 teaspoon Cavender’s Greek Seasoning or generic all-purpose seasoning like Mrs. Dash
1/2 teaspoon Aleppo pepper or red pepper flakes
Place the peppercorns and coriander into a skillet over medium heat. Toast just long enough to become fragrant, about 3 minutes. Cool to room temperature.
Add toasted peppercorns and coriander to a resealable bag and smash with a rolling pin. Alternatively, use a mortar and pestle or spice grinder if you have one. When they are cracked and smashed, mix them with the remaining spices.
Store in an airtight jar, in a cool, dark place, for up to 1 year. When using, we use 1 tablespoon of the seasoning blend for 1 pound of meat.
